a zilliondy years ago, i made a post reviewing my experiences with various kinds of websites for posting art (and by a zilliondy years ago i mean 2023). now it's 2025 and much of the digital landscape has changed, so it's time for a refresher on what the options are for creatives to post works in this ever-changing world!
just like last time, my main focuses will be on user interface (or UI), learning curve/ease of access (or EoA) which will also cover alt text/dark modes and then, finally, community atmosphere.
other elements that will now be included in my takeaways will be desktop accessibility vs. mobile optimization, stances on NSFW content (including taboo/extreme kink) and whether i believe the site is better suited for hobbyists, professionals or both.
word to the wise - always check the rules before joining these sites depending on the works that you create. i haven't meticulously read every platform's TOS so i cannot guarantee safety and comfort for all users on all platforms; i am merely giving my 2 cents on what i've used.
originally posted to pillowfort's WebDiscussions community, i've decided to share this on dreamwidth, too. amendments and credit has been added from users who chimed in to give more info and create a more comprehensive guide.
( βΌ continue )today, we're going to talk about privacy, security and maintaining digital hygiene (also known as privacy hygiene or online privacy and safety).
this guide isn't comprehensive and is mostly to give folks an idea of exactly how doxxing works, who does it and how to mitigate damage that is caused by it in the event that this happens to you or someone you know. this is also to clear up some misconceptions around it, as it is boogeyman'd into seeming a lot more serious than it is in a lot of cases.
this is not going to be victim blaming anyone who has been doxxed in the past, but moreso to give power back to the average user and give you ways to protect yourself preemptively. being online is kind of like driving: way too many folks do it when they outta learn how to do it properly first, and the safest driver is a defensive driver!
with this disclaimer in place, let's start off with some background info about doxxing.
